Some of you who read my blog may think I have been living this WONDERFUL healthy style all my life. But, honestly I have only recently started changing certain things in my home little by little. I do believe that is where it starts.
I will admit I was a little taken back when I started reading all the stuff out there. Really I was plain overwhelmed. Some things I would read would say don't eat this and then another things would say you should eat this. I just didn't know where and how to begin.
So, I started with bread. Sounded simple enough. I got a bread machine and followed a simple recipe for about 1 year. Yes I waited a whole year before I even tried anything else.
Then, not long after that my SIL and I got involved in our local homeschool group, and these women are very wise in eating and living healthy. After talking with some on occasion I knew that I was no where I needed to be in taking care of my families eating habits. This is something else I want to mention, start in the food area, before moving on to house-hold items or even make-up.
Not long after that my SIL got interested in a food co-op that some of the ladies were into. Kris was the one talking to my SIL, and one day she decided to go. While she was there she gave me a call and was naming some of the extra's and I got her to get me just a few items. Because, shopping at the grocery store and shopping at the co-op, there is a price difference that I was not willing to commit to. But, remember quality over quantity.. I have to remember that sometimes.
Sometime later my dear, dear friend Joli, spoke to me about the food co-op and I just wasn't sure. I listened to what she had to say and she answered questions that I may have had.
Then, I did it...Just like that I up and went with my SIL (Danielle). It was a busy and overwhelming chaos. I was so confused with all the running around. I wasn't sure if this was what our family needed. But, I was determined to make a change. I spoke with Debbie the co-op organizer of it all, and that is where it took off. She hooked me right up. I got an address for UNF*, username, and a password and I ran with it.
I started reading more blogs about healthy eating, I started reading more about healthy eating, I started talking to others who were into healthy eating.
And, I must say, I try something new almost every week, not everyday, but at least once a week. I have turned into a label reader. The funny thing is, I used to laugh at the people who read the labels at the grocery store, now, I do it most the time and it is like second nature.
I guess I wrote all that to say this.
If you are concerned about the food you are giving your family start small. Don't try to jump into this whole world of organic, whole, and raw food. Try a new recipe, if you like it add it to your menu or diet plan. Then after that settles well with your family try something new. But, do let them know that you are making the changes.
I have been so blessed and thankful that my hubby and kids are just willing to try all these new recipes. And, I will admit my kids are some of the pickiest you will ever meet. But, they are coming around. I let them know why something may or maynot be good for them to eat, and this helps them understand why I am doing what I am doing. I want them to know that their eating habits are some thing that I am concerned about. I don't just want kids to look healthy, I want them healthy from the inside out.
It has been about 3 years since I have decided to make the healthy change, and I am loving it.
